Aboriginal Spirit Colour Fun Run & Walk – Sunday 19 November 2017

On Sunday November 19th our Nunkuwarrin Yunti Tackling Tobacco Team are holding the Aboriginal Spirit Colour Fun Run & Walk at Fremont Park, Elizabeth from 9.30am – 2.30pm. Run, walk, skip or dance around the course as many times as you want. It’s going to get colourful! A t-shirt and funky sunglasses will be provided to participants. Fitness sessions – fun, active, healthy!

Studies have shown that even moderate physical activity, especially aerobic exercise, reduces the urge to smoke. Withdrawal symptoms and cravings for cigarettes decrease during exercise and for as long as 50 minutes afterwards. Since late 2017, the Tackling Tobacco team have worked closely with Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol Council to coordinate the fitness and information sessions in North Adelaide and Elizabeth. The program has run every Wednesday 11am-2pm and Friday from 12pm to 3pm at 2x Aqua dome locations and gives Aboriginal community and clients in the Northern area the opportunity to participate in gym, boxing and an aqua aerobics class. Supporting smoke-free environments with world champions!

The Tackling Tobacco team recently supported the Evonne Goolagong Foundation with their Come and Try Tennis activities. The team promoted activities in a smoke-free environment and it is great to be able to promote a message from the former World Number 1 Tennis Champion. Evonne’s message was to “Please be safe and don’t smoke”. Another World Champion, this time in the marathon Rob De Castella also recently stopped by the office and gave another great message about smoking.  Rob’s message to smokers is to quit smoking and think about of the next generation.
